Samsung’s Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, released this year, come packed with Galaxy AI features. The company has assured users that these features will also be extended to the S23 family, including the S23 FE, through an update to One UI 6.1 scheduled for release by the end of this month.
However, there’s a catch – the S22 family was left out initially. Now, there’s a glimmer of hope that the 2022 flagships might still receive the Galaxy AI treatment, although nothing is confirmed yet. Samsung’s President of the Mobile Division, TM Roh, mentioned during a general shareholders’ meeting that the company is actively exploring avenues to bring Galaxy AI features to older devices.
The challenge lies in the fact that while some functionalities are cloud-based, others rely on on-device processing. This presents a hurdle for implementation on the S22 family. Surprisingly, the S23 FE, set to receive Galaxy AI, shares the same chipsets as the S22 models. Roh highlighted that considerable effort is required to make this transition happen, but Samsung is committed to allocating resources to address this challenge.
Although it’s not guaranteed that the S22 family will receive Galaxy AI, efforts are underway to make it a reality. The final outcome remains uncertain, but any developments will be communicated promptly.
Shifting gears, TM Roh confirmed that Samsung continues to explore rollable and slideable device concepts, progressing steadily through pre-launch phases such as research and patenting. Interestingly, the company appears to be exercising caution in introducing new form factors, prioritizing thoroughness over haste. While still in development, these innovative devices are not being rushed to market.
